Pressure sensors are employed for measuring the pressure of
gases and liquids in general. Pressure is defined as a force per unit area. It
means pressure, force and area are deeply interlinked and in case of pressure
sensors they are complementary to each other. A pressure sensor works on the patterns of a transducer. A transducer
is a device that converts the form of energy. Energy types are electrical,
mechanical, light, chemical, acoustic and thermal which can be converted using
transducers.

Pressure sensors
generate a signal if a pressure is applied on them. In everyday application
pressure sensors are used in many controlling and monitoring operation. These
are also used for measuring the changes in other variables such as changes in
water level, fluid/gas flow and latitude. It has many optional names like
pressure transmitters, pressure transducers, pressure indicators and
piezometers. These devices differ largely in terms of technology, design and
pricing. A rough estimate shows that there might be more than 300 companies
dealing in this device and such a sensor is based on at least 50 technologies.
